Search and Research #130

This, like many of the recent strips, is based on an actual interaction with a gentleman who took my "I'm not really a stats guy" to mean, "Please explain statistics to me for the next 15 minutes." I really enjoyed writing and drawing this strip. I hope you all enjoy it as well!

Could you make us up a supply of those hats to keep at the desk? I want one for all those people who want to tell me all about their grandmother's thesis....

Ha Ha! I'm with you there...I've had two of those kind of conversations this year. I really should make some of these hats for our service desk.

i dont understand what this gentleman is talking about nor why he is talking to a librarian about it.

Well, Jonathan, the thing is that I don't know what he's talking about either, but he's talking to a librarian about it because he found this research in a library and felt very strongly that it needed to be shared with someone, and Marc happened to be closest to him. This actually happened to me a few weeks ago...a guy came into my office talking statistics very excited about this new report he'd ready and every time I told him I didn't understand that much about statistics he tried to start teaching me statistics! The things the guy in the strip is saying are very close to things the guy in my office was saying. It was a little crazy, and I decided I would make a strip out of the experience. That's the only explanation I can give.
